Our daily lives are jam packed with classes, homework, studying, chores, meetings, appointments, etc, that during the week we barely have enough time to sit down and relax before 8PM. Sundays are a perfect time to set your intentions and allow yourself to breath. It’s a day I dedicate to God, my relationships, myself & nothing else. I’ve been making “Self Care Sunday” more of a priority & it has made a big difference in my intentions & anxiety throughout the week. Self care is so so so important & as women with big hearts, it’s easy to put everyone else above ourselves. Self care is about identifying your own needs & meeting them emotionally, physically & spiritually. It’s about treating yourself as you do others & helps you maintain a healthy relationship with yourself. Maintaining a healthy relationship with yourself not only will help you feel healthier all around, but also will help you feel more confident within yourself. I’ve listed 5 tips to successfully care for yourself & your needs!
Take time to enjoy your coffee & a healthy breakfast.
How often do we have to take our breakfast & coffee on the go during the week? I’m guilty of sleeping through my alarm & rushing to make a smoothie & packing my coffee in my bag to make later. Rushing in the morning can set you up for a stressful first few hours of class or work so the weekend is a perfect time to wake up slowly, relax, create a healthy breakfast & enjoy your coffee while reading your daily devo or watching your fav TV show. My favorite breakfasts to make on the weekend are smoothie bowls, homemade oats with warm cinnamon apples & quinoa breakfast bowls. Stay tuned because I’ll be posting my 3 favorite ways to use quinoa for breakfast this week!
Set your intentions for the week & plan ahead
There’s nothing I love more than being extra & literally planning out everything during the week from my meals to chores to reminders to how much sleep I get throughout the week. ev-ery-thang. Trust me, planning out every detail of your week can help you accomplish what you need to without feeling over whelmed when your week gets crazy! Tip for chores: Spread them out through the week: one day is sweep + mop day, another is dust + vacuum & another is dedicated to laundry. Spreading them out helps so that I don’t have to spend 2 hours on Saturday doing them & ensures they actually get done every week!
Now I don’t mean go hard if you’ve had a good
sweat 6 days out of the week already. But doing something active that helps get you moving on a lazy day such as yoga, a walk with your dog or S.O. can help improve your mood & help you feel accomplished & healthy. I’ve taken up yoga 2x per week & I can feel a difference in my body & mindset.
Have your own spa day at home
Every Sunday, I love to do a microdermabrasion treatment & a mask to help get rid of dead skin & keep my skin clear. Getting a professional microdermabrasion treatment can cost up to $125 each week. Ain’t nobody got money for that when you love to travel & buy overpriced gym wear. I purchase mine from Mary Kay for $88 & it lasts me a few months! After my microdermabrasion, I love using a face mask. Right now my favorite is Freeman’s Avocado & Oatmeal mask.
Unwind & get enough sleep
Sleep is so so so important for our physical & mental health. When I have a busy week ahead, there are days when I struggle to wind down at the end of the day. But taking time to care for myself & do what helps me unwind, ensures I can fall asleep relaxed & wake up refreshed. I love making Traditional Medicinals Camomile & Lavender tea every night an hour before bed, taking my iPad to the bedroom & watching my favorite TV show until I’m ready to fall asleep. Boy Meets World & King of Queens for the win.
